FAQ

Cape Town is one of the best cities in South Africa for tourists. The city places a very high value on inbound travel and as such tourism infrastructure and services are easily accessible throughout the region. There are also a number of reputable adventure operators who offer a range of outdoor activities that will ensure you get to experience the best the region has to offer.

Cape Town is probably most famous for Table Mountain – a unique landform that can be seen from almost anywhere in the region. Aside from providing an iconic skyline for the Mother City, Table Mountain is also an adventurer’s playground with hiking and running trails all around the mountain.

Sadly, as Cape Town is a popular tourist destination, the prices of things like accommodation, food and drinks and adventure activities tend to be on the expensive side – especially when compared with similar offerings in the rest of South Africa.

For international travellers, foreign currency goes a very long way and many people may find that Cape Town is a cheap destination when compared with cities in Europe and further afield.

Cape Town is a centre for so many activities that you can never go wrong spending as much time as you can in the region. For adventurers, try to at least do one hike up Table Mountain or Lion’s Head and spend a day exploring the Cape Peninsula.

As with most cities in the world, there are good areas and bad areas to walk in the city. The general rule is to try walk in a group and avoid deserted alleys and informal settlements. You will more than likely encounter people on the streets asking for money of food – it is best to kindly decline and continue walking.

Cape Town is good all year round. The winters tend to be cold and rainy and the summers can get very windy. Spring and Autumn are generally great for weather.
